President’s Letter
Dear Neighbors,
The turnout for the Annual Meeting was terrific. This wasn’t a surprise given the much anticipated presentation by the Farrell Building Company regarding its development plan for the former Ridgeway Country Club property. The golf course which has been a Gedney Farms landmark for approximately 100 years is now the subject of a subdivision plan for 99 new detached single–family homes pursuant to the R-30 zone which requires minimum lots of 30,000 square feet. The Gedney Board has been monitoring the application which is now before the Planning Board and has submitted a series of comments and questions to the City’s professionals and Planning Board which are below. We encourage all neighbors to review the subdivision plan and submit your comments to City officials and attend the upcoming hearings in the matter.
Regrettably, the Annual Meeting also marked the end of Guy D’Antona’s service to the Board. Guy served almost twenty years on the Board in many key roles, President, Legal Counsel, Nominating Committee Chair, among others. He was President when New York Presbyterian Hospital planned a significant development on its property that was subsequently withdrawn. He also was a key Board member in managing our litigation against the FASNY project. Guy will be remembered for his pleasant and reserved demeanor and his very succinct and incisive contributions to the Association.
Regards,
John E. Sheehan
President Notwithstanding the Gedney Board communication to the Planning Board and City Officials, we urge all Gedney Farm residents to email the Planning Board and City Officials directly by letter or e-mail to express your own thoughts on the Farrell Subdivision Plan.

Gedney Farms Entrance Sign
As reported at our Annual Meeting, the City of White Plains just approved the installation of a Gedney Farms entrance sign located at Gedney Esplanade and Mamaroneck Avenue. The Gedney Association is working closely with two Gedney Farms residents, Andrew Berger and Norman DiChiara, to design and implement the project. Below is a preliminary depiction of the monument.
New Constitution
The membership voted to adopt proposed amendments to the Constitution of The Gedney Association at the Annual Meeting in November. View the newly amended Constitution here.
Ronald S. Schoenfeld, Special Guest at the Annual Meeting, presented an original charcoal drawing of Captain John Haines Gedney, dated 1882. Mr. Schoenfeld resides in a house that was owned by Burt Gedney, and lives next door to the house that was previously owned by Captain John Haines Gedney. The Gedney family were among the original settlers of Salem, Massachusetts. During the 18th century, the family moved to Westchester County, settling in both Mamaroneck and White Plains.
