Dear *|FNAME|*,

The past few weeks have been very active in connection with the FASNY application:

Common Council Meeting: Monday, September 16 at 7PM
The Common Council has called a Special Meeting “to consider accepting as complete the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) prepared for the French American School of New York application”.  Indications are that the Council will vote to accept the FEIS as complete.  As we have mentioned in previous emails, acceptance of the FEIS as complete is not tantamount to approval of the plan.  It is the next stage of the state environmental review process.  However, we are very concerned that the FEIS is not complete and that FASNY is pressuring the Mayor and Council to accept an inadequate document.

As you may be aware, the most recent draft of the FEIS contained significant changes to the proposed development.  These changes include:

  • Additional options for the FASNY main entrance from North Street and Bryant Avenue; the Ridgeway main entrance remains an option
  • Closing of Hathaway Lane at Ridgeway or redirection of Hathaway Lane at Bryant Avenue
  • Multi-lane roads to cross the property and lead from these new entrances parallel to Hathaway Lane all the way to the site of the four school buildings along Ridgeway

None of these significant changes has been subject to the review and comments of the public; no additional public hearings are planned.  These changes to the FEIS were made public in late July – less than two months ago in the middle of the summer.

Below is a link to a letter the Gedney Association has sent to the Mayor and Council.  Please take a moment to read it.  It explains our concerns in some detail.  We have received no response from the Mayor or Council to our letter.

What can you do?

  1. Attend the Common Council Meeting on September 16 at 7PM.  Although there will be no opportunity to speak, your presence and that of your neighbors and friends will send a message that we remain very concerned and do not want the FASNY project approved.  Please make every effort to come.  We will meet on the City Hall steps at 6PM.
  2. Write a letter to the Mayor and Council Members.  The City has set a deadline for comments of 5PM on Thursday, September 12.  Let them know your thoughts!
  3. Inform your friends and neighbors.  FASNY has chosen the summer months and the busy beginning of September to try to press their advantage.  Let’s make sure we are energized!

And, don’t forget to come to the Gedney Picnic on Sunday, September 15 at Burke Foundation!!

Thank you.

Terence
