The Gedney Association is thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generosity of Theresa N. Maguire, Claudia Jaffe, Ralph Reda, and Louis Petralia, we have received a donation of $2,453.50. President’s Letter

Dear Neighbors,

As you may know the Draft of the City’s new Comprehensive Plan elicited much negative criticism when presented to the community some months ago.  Hundreds of opponents to the Plan attended the City Hall hearings on the matter.  The essential concern expressed by residents was that the single-family neighborhoods were being threatened by certain recommendations in the Plan.  In reaction to these concerns the Common Council modified the Plan before adopting it.  The modifications were:

  • Adding language underlining the strength and value of the single-family neighborhoods;
  • Removal of the following initiatives:

    • Conduct a feasibility study whether to permit Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on single-family zoned properties.

    • Amending the subdivision regulations to permit clustering for large properties in single-family zoning districts.

  • Limit assisted living uses to only multi-family districts unless a large institutional campus over 10 acres;

  • Removal of the reference to study potential for medium density housing along portions of the North Street corridor.

Regrettably, there are many other controversial provisions that remain in the adopted document.  The process highlights the growing concerns many residents have about maintaining the delicate balance of land use between downtown’s recent sharp increase in density with the numerous single-family neighborhoods that surround it. You can view the compilation of redline edits here.

Regards,

John E. Sheehan
President

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR

As a friendly reminder, please pick up after your dog and dispose of waste properly. Leaving bags on others’ property or in public areas is inconsiderate and affects our neighborhood’s cleanliness. Let’s work together to keep Gedney Farms  clean and welcoming!

ZERO VISION PLAN
The Gedney Association has been advocating for safety improvements at the intersection of Mamaroneck Ave. and Gedney Way/Heatherbloom Rd., including a crosswalk signal. We’ve also advocated for a “No Right Turn” sign for westbound traffic on Heatherbloom Rd. turning right into Burke, to help reduce cut-through traffic.

Now is the time to act! The City is developing its Vision Zero Action Plan to enhance road safety. Please take the Vision Zero Public Survey to voice your concerns and help improve our neighborhood. Learn more here.
