As you may know, the Gedney Association has been actively advocating for improved safety measures on Mamaroneck Avenue at the intersection of Gedney Way and Heatherbloom Road. This intersection is a significant safety concern, as many in our community use it to walk to school, Gillie Park, and local stores on Gedney Way. For years, we have urged the Common Council and the Transportation Commission to install much-needed signage and a push-button crosswalk signal to ensure pedestrians can cross safely.
Additionally, we have been advocating for a No Right Turn Sign at the entrance of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital during morning hours to address cut-through traffic on Heatherbloom Road for years. This problem has worsened recently due to GPS navigation systems directing more vehicles through our neighborhood, as well as increased traffic to the hospital.
Now is the time to act! The City of White Plains is developing its Vision Zero Action Plan, which aims to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries, while improving safety, health, and fair mobility for all residents. This is an important opportunity for you to voice your concerns and advocate for the safety improvements we need in our neighborhood.
We encourage you to take the Vision Zero Public Survey to express the safety needs of our community and any additional ideas you may have to help make our streets safer.
Here’s How You Can Participate:
1. Learn more about the Vision Zero Plan: Visit the Vision Zero page on the City of White Plains website here.
2. Take the Vision Zero Public Survey: Share your thoughts and concerns by filling out the survey here.
Your input is crucial in shaping the future of our neighborhood’s safety. Let’s work together to ensure the City of White Plains hears our voices.
Thank you for your continued support in making our community safer!
Sincerely,
The Gedney Association
