The Gedney Association
WINTER NEWSLETTER 2022
President’s Letter
Dear Neighbors,
Subsequent to the recent FASNY sale to a residential home builder the Board decided, upon advice of our attorney, to withdraw our lawsuit since it is moot as it pertained to the FASNY project. I would like to thank our former neighbor, Dan Seidel, who represented the Association before the Appellate Court.
Although the 10 year FASNY ordeal was at times quite contentious, I am pleased that our opposition to the FASNY plan was always professional, sticking to the facts and respectful of alternative views. Our position has always been consistent: any development proposal for the former golf course property that would adversely impact the residential quality and character of our neighborhood would be strongly opposed. The unity and diligence of Gedney Farms residents in conjunction with residents from other White Plains neighborhoods was essential in prevailing over very powerful forces.
As the new development plan emerges we will keep you informed and promise a vigorous review.
On behalf of the Board I wish you a Happy and Peaceful New Year.
Regards,
John E. Sheehan
President
1133 Westchester Avenue: Proposed Utility Solar Farm
There will be a public hearing on Monday, February 7 for an amendment to an approved plan at 1133 Westchester Avenue from Voda Solar Resources, LLC.
In 2019, 1133 Westchester Ave, a former corporate park, received approval for an overlay application to construct three multi-family apartment buildings containing 300-units.
Voda is now seeking an amendment to construct over 280,000 square feet of Carport Solar Systems on 6.5 acres, the size of 5 football fields, that will border residents off North Street (Allan Dr, Dreier Ln, Greene Ln and McGuinness Ln) and Woodbrook Road (Ridgeway of White Plains).
Click here (https://city-of-white-plains-projects-and-proposals-wp-planning.hub.arcgis.com/pages/1133-westchester-avenue) for more information on the application.
We strongly urge Gedney Farms residents to attend the Public Hearing on Monday, February 7th and/or email the Mayor and Common Council regarding this issue.

Request for Public Hearing Ignored: Marijuana Dispensaries & Lounges ARE Coming to White Plains
As of December 31st, over 642 municipalities (out of 1,518) in NYS have chosen to completely opt-out of marijuana dispensaries, according to the Rockefeller Institute of Government, a public policy think tank that has been tracking the status of the opt-out process for each municipality in the state.
In October, The Gedney Association, along with other neighborhood associations, requested a public hearing to allow residents to voice their opinion on this issue. This request was not granted. In Westchester County, 29 towns opted-out of marijuana dispensaries while 35 opted out of on-site consumption lounges mainly due to safety and public health concerns. However, White Plains is one of only seven towns in the County that has allowed consumption sites/lounges, and joins other large cities – Yonkers, Peekskill, New Rochelle, and Mt. Vernon – in allowing BOTH dispensaries and consumption sites.

Dear Neighbors,
Those of you who were in attendance at the Gedney Association Annual Meeting heard me briefly raise a question about the proposed installation of 5G mini cell towers throughout Gedney Farms. Unlike 4G, which is transmitted from the tall towers that we see along highways, 5G signals cannot carry great distances and must be transmitted by dense placement of powerful millimeter-wave antennas, including placement throughout residential areas, and near schools and play areas.
The telecom industry is enthusiastic about 5G, however, there is a significant downside that is ignored by the industry, primarily the negative effect of 5G radiation on human health. For more information about the health effects of 5G, visit
Americans for Responsible Technology (http://www.americansforresponsibletech.org) . (http://www.americansforresponsibletech.org/)
5G’s health risks can be lowered by common sense limitations on cell placement, which some New York communities, including the City of Ithaca, already require. For more information please email 5GAlertW@gmail.com (mailto:5GAlertW@gmail.com) .
Your Neighbor,
Hilary Lehv
