First, thank you very much to everyone (and there were quite a few) who wrote letters to the Common Council to voice your opposition to the FASNY plans. The letters were well written and expressed our views with a compelling mix of facts and passion.
Now, we need you to attend the Common Council meeting Monday evening (September 16) at City Hall, 255 Main Street. The meeting will begin at 7 and we will gather at 6PM on the front steps of City Hall. We expect FASNY parents to attend also so it will likely be crowded. The earlier you can come the better. Although there will not be an opportunity to speak and the meeting will probably not last very long, it is important that we demonstrate to the Council that we are very much interested in the FASNY application. Your presence will send a message to the Council. Please come and bring a friend or two!
Please remember that the Council will be voting whether or not to accept the FEIS (Final Environmental Impact Statement). Also, please remember that acceptance is not equivalent to approval. Although we do not believe that the FEIS is ready for acceptance, approval of the FASNY project will be determined later in the process. Regardless, the acceptance of the current version of the FEIS could potentially reduce our chances for denial of the FASNY applicant for a special permit to develop the property as a multiple school campus.
