The Gedney Association

SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022

President’s Letter

Dear Neighbors,

As we slowly enter the Spring season I would like to bring you up to date on several important items.

Spring Social Event
With Covid finally abating we are planning a cocktail party for Gedney Farms residents on Wednesday evening, June 8, at Westchester Hills Golf Club. The cocktail party will be an adults-only event. It should be a perfect opportunity to connect with longtime neighbors and meet newcomers to Gedney Farms. Details on the event will follow.

Gedney Association Garden Sponsorship
The Association intends to sponsor the creation of a new garden on Richbell Road in memory of longtime Board member Elsie Lahrmann. The garden will be done in conjunction with the White Plains Beautification Foundation, which has been instrumental in beautification efforts throughout the City for so many years.

Pedestrian Walkway at Mamaroneck Avenue/Heatherbloom Road
As you may be aware, the White Plains Capital Plan includes a signalized intersection upgrade at Mamaroneck Avenue and Heatherbloom Road which will include pedestrian safety enhancements. Regrettably, this has been postponed yet again. This is a difficult intersection for pedestrians, especially those with baby strollers. The Board intends to press the Common Council to undertake this improvement as soon as possible.

Former Golf Course Property
As previously reported, Farrell Building Company plans to develop the property pursuant to current zoning which permits detached single-family homes on 30,000 square foot parcels. We will keep you informed with any news regarding their plans.

Regards,

John E. Sheehan

New Garden at Richbell Road

The Gedney Association continues to focus on beautification improvements within the neighborhood. The Board is happy to announce that The Gedney Association is sponsoring a new WPBF (https://wpbf.org) garden on the island between Richbell Road, Easton Avenue, and Fairway Drive. The garden is in honor of former Board member Elsie Lahrmann, who lived on Richbell Road and served on the board for many years. We look forward to working with the Foundation in planting the beautiful garden in the Spring.

Blooming Daffodils

In the Fall of 2021, WPBF (https://wpbf.org) , in coordination with The Gedney Association, planted over 1,000 new daffodil bulbs on Gedney Esplanade near the mailbox. Take a walk down Gedney Esplanade to see the daffodils now in full bloom!
